She was beautiful . . . the perfect balance of flash and class . . . long and lean with just the right amount of curve. Her voice had that low, throaty growl men are powerless to resist. She inspired desire in all that laid eyes on her and no one could avoid looking. She was every teenage boy’s wet dream and the answer to any male midlife crisis.
She wasn’t my first dance, but once I felt her power surging through me as the pavement was devoured by her sleek, sloping frontend, there was no going back. She forever eclipsed the allure of the petite, foreign cuties I had boogied on down the road with before. I sold the TR8 and let the spouse-of-the-moment have the Alfa Spider. I stopped lusting after the 911.
There was something about the weight of her and the way her low-profiled, 101-inch base hugged the road. I was never happier than when I was wrapped in her butter-soft leather, Recaro seats pushing the RPMs toward redline. She was raw power and sex appeal. She was in-your-face with not one wit of apology about her. All-American muscle – built-to-spec down to the factory-painted, Vette louvers on her rear window – she was special ordered by a retired cop. He may have had her built, but she was meant for me.
I left her behind with all my other dreams when I fled to Washington. She was a California girl in every respect. It’s where she belonged. T-tops and ground effects weren’t designed for the road and weather conditions where I was going. I needed four-wheel drive, not cross-fire fuel injection. My heart broke as I watched her pull away ablaze in all her glory . . . seducing her new driver as she once had me.
I couldn’t replace her if I wanted to . . . she was a once in a lifetime love. I’m good with my current little, front-wheel drive, fuel-efficient model. It meets my needs. Still, when I close my eyes, I can feel the wind in my hair as I would fly down the open desert highway – tops off, engine in overdrive – behind the wheel of my ’84 Pontiac Trans Am. Don’t call her a Firebird or I’ll have to hurt you. Anyone even thinks firechicken and they’re going down! And you thought I was going to be all serious and stuff. *wink*

You never forget that one totally awesome car and muscle cars were the top shelf of the automotive world (in my humble opinion). There’s nothing like ’em.
Thanks for your comment, Tony.

I got a little chill there toward the end, was that intentional? I feel as if I’ve been touched by a sexy lady, and well, I am not a lesbian, I will have you know, but I do love lesbians and respect them above all else, if only for transcending the penis. Not that there’s anything wrong with the penis. Actually, I think there’s a reason I’m talking about the male member, it’s because I have always associated your lovely Trans Am type cars with a kind of environmental penetration. They are like car as dick. But the thing that strike me here, is that when a woman steps inside the car, she takes on the role of penis. The interior of the car is like the vagina, right? Because it’s inside, and soft and supple and all leathery (wait not that’s not right). So the car is like sex on wheels, both penis and vagina. Who wouldn’t miss a car like that. I shouldn’t drink before 5. Seriously though, I knew you were a California girl.

Life in the Boomer Lane
You have sent me into a complete swoon, remembering my first BMW convertible, an impossibly gorgeous little red thing that I purchased preowned. The perfect shade of red. Not orange red. Slightly bluish red (only slightly). Like the perfect lipstick color. And the last of the manual regtops that BMW made. You had to work hard to undress that little baby. I adored that car, so much so that I poured thousands of dollars into constant repairs. The car was in the shop more than it was on the road. My heart breaks when I remember the day I finally admitted defeat and sold it. I then bought a new BMW with an extended warrenty. Silver, because that shade of red isn’t made anymore. It’s not the same. It never will be. Now you know my story.

I’ll let you in on a secret. My beauty cost me two engines (my lead foot) and a complete new undercarriage (the result of my 17 year old daughter losing control and driving over a meridan). I also made the costly repairs after a dirty-bag, uninsured motorist tried to kill me and my insurance wanted to total my baby. They didn’t understand she was more than a car.
I’m so glad you took the time to add your story. See guys . . . girls love their cars too!

I actually know where she is . . . I knew the person I sold her to and she’s now in his son’s care. I’m glad she’s not is a junk lot somewhere. I’m not sure how I feel about some of the “modifications,” but she is much loved and that’s what counts.

It was the answer to any teenage boys dream, and answer to any male midlife crisis… whoa!
Love the start of this post.. the first paragraph gets you glued and wanting to read more.. great one Miss D! Never had the pleasure of driving one, but one of my friends did, and said it was something that “cannot be described, but only experienced”
December 5, 2011 at 11:17 pm
Miss Demure Restraint
Your friend is quite right. When I had the car, I participated in an exchange program for work experience. I had a man from Malyasia stay in our home for several months. He loved to sit in the car with the engine running, but no matter how often I offered to let him take it “around the block,” he refused. He was perfectly happy just going out to start it for me in the morning. I think he was just a little afraid of the power.
Thanks for your kind words, Ari.

Yes a true beauty if I ever saw one Miss. D your posting takes me back a long way, back to one of my most favourite drives, yes I am of course talking about my Cortina 2000GT and that car was a delight to drive, and for all those boy racers in their boring little Escort XR3i and Triumph Spitfires, they were no match and nowhere near as comfortable either 🙂 Of course I did have a Cortina 2000E also but what a fangtastic car that Cortina GT was 🙂 😉
Your 1984 Trans Am was much better
than all of mine put together Miss. D 🙂
Have a lovely weekend with fond memories of
that ghoulishly fine and most wickedly great drive 🙂

As with all things . . . I’m sure your Cortina GT was every bit as good for you as my TransAm was for me. It’s the emotion they inspire in us that makes them so fine. I will say I doubt there will ever be another car like her for me.
I’m so happy to see you and hope your weekend was fine and your week will be even better.

Somehow it does not surprise me in the slightest to hear you are a biker. Ex-bikers don’t exist. There are simply bikers with or without a bike at the moment.
It is heartbreaking when things we become so attached to leave our lives.
So happy to see you here, Prenin.

Hi Miss D! 🙂
Yes, I’ll always be a biker – I drool every time I see something passing on two wheels – but now I am not allowed to drive because of the medication, the local teenagers would steal my bike on sight and I lack the money to fulfil my dreams…
Still: 8,000 bikers are injured or killed every year, so I guess it’s for the best…
Love and hugs!

This is a great story! I’m not a car-guy (mechanic-wise) but your description makes me want to be one. I love your collection of thoughts. I’m in Seattle but my wife and I make regular visits to her family in SoCal…so I understand the different automotive requirements of this god-forsaken, moss covered, I-have-to-replace-my-windshield-wipers-every-six-months, place we call home. Even so, I owned a glorious deep green BMW 325 convertible for several years and I felt/feel the pull of those memories. Now we own a practical Subaru…nuff said!
Love your blog!
December 5, 2011 at 11:59 pm
Miss Demure Restraint
Funny you should mention the “moss covered.” I will never be able to fully explain my shock to have moss growing on my daily driver! I have learned that moss can grow on an rolling stone or at least a moving vehicle.
You are going to have to explain the whole owning a convertible in rainy Seattle thing. I think I’m making some headway in understand as I did get a sunroof in my last car. I may be adapting.
Thank you so much for stopping by, my Seattle fellow.

my love with the auto is old trucks, I have an old truck with a granny gear that could pull a house, I am rebuilding the motor and I miss driving it. When I was younger I had a camero with aa custom paint job, classic. I couldn’t help but drool over your red trans am. Our love for autos is similar to that of a cowboy and his horse, only we go faster (grin) have a quality day!

I like the analogy between horses and cars. Sure, a car isn’t going to give you a big, sloppy horsey kiss when you feed ’em their favorite treat, but I swear when the TA was waxed and polished, there was a little something extra in her growl that felt like “Thank you.”
And thank you, Art, for dropping in. Secret . . . I like old trucks too.

My first car, a 1976 Comet GT with a scope hood, slightly raised rear end, white with black racing stripe and black leather interior. I was the 2nd owner when I bought it for $2500 in 1977. I went through a set of tires in the first 6 months, it got 8 miles to the gallon, a fellow I was dating put a straight exhaust on it and it rumbled. When I sat at the light I had to hold her back it was almost impossible to not chirp the tires.
I was forever being challenged by the guys. Oh how I loved that car. But I couldn’t afford the tires and the fuel so I let my dad talk me into getting a Honda Civic brand new off the line for $2700, they came in shit yellow and shit green, I got the green. All I can say about the Honda is cheap and reliable.
December 6, 2011 at 2:49 am
Miss Demure Restraint
My brother had a little Honda he bought for a trip to Mexico. When he lived with me and half a dozen other people in “the hotel” (a really big house, where I rented out rooms), he left it parked in the back with the keys in the kitchen. Whenever anyone was in a car pinch, they’d jump in the Honda and go. I swear, I don’t even think anybody put gas in it. Fugly, for sure, but reliable as all get out.
Good to see you “lady.” Thanks for taking time to leave a comment.

Mis Demure, in 1984 my youngest child was 10 years old, and I was carpooling in a Ford F150 fiery red pickup with full camper-equipped installation in the back!! I was often sitting at traffic lights (taking an after school break from my office job) when you sleek young things would either float, screech, growl, or levitate past me! I have age-peer friends who go across several state lines to look at well-preserved TransAms for sale! Maybe that retired cop had served in the armed forces with some of my relatives, who knows? Anyway, thanks loads “for the memories”. We written!

Sleek, young things . . . Now you’ve made me laugh. My daughter was 10 when I bought the TA in 1988. Yes, I used it to ferry kids to school and the beach in the summer. I think we may be closer to age-peers than you know.
Thank you for visiting again. It’s always good to see you.

I had this self-same love affair with a ’69 Vette. She was gold (yellow, not that “champagne” BROWN), racing fenders, L-88 hood, sidepipes, 427, black rag top, dual-quad cams, Holley four-barrel,…she slid into fourth with a purr at 120. Lust on wheels.
Over time, I have had other affairs, but none rivaled the first “Bitch”. My next creation holds the chance at being that fine a machine…I suppose I should be out in the garage…

There is something wonderful when you connect with a hunk of metal with some wheels and a gear shift. Mine came later in life, with my “mid-life crisis car” a Mini-Cooper. No muscle, true, but it had a kick-ass 6 speed transmission and went as fast as I damn well pleased, letting me zip in and out of all kinds of exciting situations. And everybody smiled at me. I miss it!

Cars are just so cool. There seems to be one somewhere in almost everyone’s life. I just don’t want to hear that it was you that left the Mini on the railroad tracks. 🙂
Thanks for stopping by.

No. My mini is safely in someone else’s hands. And not my brother’s!

No worries Miss D – I’ll still be here, so be happy!!! 🙂
The shopping is done for me apart from a box of chocolates for my friend at the Opticians.
I’ve known her since she started nearly a decade ago and she’s a sweet kid who I have learned to trust implicitly. 🙂
Love and hugs!
Prenin.

You are way ahead of me. I haven’t even started shopping yet. I better get on that, huh?

Nice! Mine was an 1986 Firebird. Pure white with a red interior. I put over 120,000 miles on that car living a dream.
I don’t know what it is about white machines. “Pearl” my 2003 Harley Electraglide is Pearl White.
Nice blog.

I remember the white with red birds. Fine cars. Harleys . . . goes without saying . . . awesome. Nothing on the planet sounds like a Harley.
I was infatuated with a Pearl White Mazda Eclipse Spyder a couple of years ago, but it’s a good thing I opted for the Chevy Cavalier. Since the car was reduced to a smoldering heap of molten metal and glass when the garage burned down. The Cavalier was no big deal . . . the Eclipse would have been. It was something about the Pearl White that I just couldn’t get over.
Thanks for dropping in, Mickey.

I used to drive for “hours” when I was younger with no particular place to go. It was excellent. I love the way you describe your car she sounds awesome.
I had a baby blue 1980 Baby Blue Datsun 280Z, 5 speed, T-tops and man, how she flew.
My 1982 Firebird loved her.
1976 442 cutlass – bad ass and so very fast, woooeeee!
1978 Ford Bronco with 34 inch tires, canary yellow!
1984 Chevy Blazer also with 34 inch tires, the bug shield said “Dinky’s Fairy Tale” on it. LOL 🙂
And now, I have this Altima thing… She’s a good gurl, not like I really want but one day…

Those are some awesome rides. Some cars/trucks are special. Some just aren’t.
I so happy to see you here Mystery Coach. Thank you for coming by and sharing.

I KNOW! LOL 🙂 They were awesome! I loved them all… My baby blue was the toughest one to get rid of though. She flew. I don’t think I was ever out of 5th gear. Siiiigh…
I love the purr of an engine, the shine of the wheels, the way they handle, old school muscle cars are amazing. The new Audi’s are way awesome and I agree with you, some cars/trucks just aren’t. I know, I know… no purr, no adrenaline rush, no playful personality. Blegh…
You’re welcome! Nice to be here! I run out of time so I can’t go see everyone I would like to!

MC I had a 76 Cutlass! I loved it. I had it only like 7 years ago, but it was completely original and it drove like a dream. Heavy! But could it ever move!
It had two issues though, one the drivers door would fly open in a corner and that door was a heavy sucker when it was open, you’re trying to manuevevr a corner and not take out the oncoming traffic or a pedestrian, and the mounts for the rear bumper were rusted through.
When JC and I were living in the country I took the car to visit my son when I got back JC comes in and says “where’s the bumper” I said, “What do you mean where’s the bumper?” He said, “Just what I said, where’s the F’n bumper?”
I went out and the rear bumper was gone!!
He gave me shit all night.
He was driving a friend home that night and they’re driving along and the friend says, “so what did that bumper look like?” JC is like “what bumper?”
The guy said,”the one you were giving Carrie shit for losing”
JC said, “Oh chrome, why?”
The guy said, “cuz we passed it about 5 minutes ago”
